Happy Thanksgiving!
To me this holiday brings so many mixed emotions, especially as I teach my girls more about the actual facts of what happened that first Thanksgiving. And I have allowed myself to feel those mixed emotions, let them sit. Just like I tell my girls, those are my feelings and I am allowed to feel them. So for those of you that this can also feel a little wrong, or off as you to learn more about actual history, know that you are allowed to embrace the core of the holiday and feel not so great at how the history is taught.
This is what I know, we as a the Rowe family choose to surround ourselves in gratitude every day. Every meal the girls love to ask to go around the table to say what we are grateful for, not just on the holidays and I adore this. So we choose to treat this day as a day to come together as a family. We marry both O'Neal 's traditional American dishes and our Dominican ones, which in itself is so special. We talk about those that we have lost, remember their favorite part of the holiday, we thank the hands that prepare the dishes and most of all we are together eating yummy food, watching movies and kicking off another holiday season together.
I am also overwhelmed with emotions about this community that we have built. Where we share this motherhood journey and feel less lonely as we maybe "color out of lines" when it comes to how we parent our children. Where I can be transparent, vulnerable, silly and perhaps help you have a better experience as a mama.
A friend that I truly admire told me that I was using my social media presence as a way of mothering other mothers, that honestly was the best thing someone has ever said about what I am doing on this little site of mine. Because when I come on here I am coming on to share anything and everything that has helped me get through the day in the best way. I am truly GRATEFUL for this opportunity and I am hopeful of what the end of the year has in store for us.
Thank you for being here.
Natalie
